"Since it was posted back in July, Donna Anderson’s piece on the “Black Eyed Kids” phenomenon “Have You Invited any Black Eyed Children Into Your Home?” has been one of our all time highest read articles, and has spawned some pretty incredible conversation about who the creepy BEKs are, what they want, and what you should do if they happen to show up on your doorstep. ~ Greg Newkirk at WhoFortedBlog.com

Irregardless, You’re Still Wrong

Most Importantly, You're WrongYou can argue until the cows come home but you’re still wrong. “Irregardless” is not a word. I know you’ve seen it on other blogs and you’ve heard educated, highly respected celebrities and politicians use it, but that still doesn’t make it right.

Adding the letters “ir” to the beginning of a word reverses the meaning. For example, the word “relevant” means “connected to or related” and the word “irrelevant” means “not related or not connected.”

Adding the letters “less” to the end of a word means “to take away or to have none” as in shameless or penniless.

The word “regardless” then, means “having no regard”, which is already a negative. So putting that “ir” at the beginning turns it into a double negative – in one word. It’s not possible, it’s not necessary, and you look uneducated when you do it. So stop. Just stop it now. Everyone’s laughing at you.
